What Are the Options for Neck Lift Surgery?

Before and after neck lift in HoustonIf you’re unhappy with the appearance of your neck due to sagging skin, vertical bands, or fatty deposits, neck lift surgery could be an excellent solution.

At Dr. Alfonso Barrera’s practice in Houston, TX, patients seeking to revitalize their neck area benefit from his nearly 40 years of experience in plastic surgery. Dr. Barrera is known for his dedication to natural results and personalized care. Your customized care starts with your consultation. It’s an ideal time to discuss your personal goals for the surgery and learn about the surgical approach Dr. Barrera recommends.

Here, we’ll explore the two most common options for neck lift surgery, helping you understand which approach might be best for you.

Traditional Neck Lift

Dr. Barrera creates incisions beneath or in front of the ears with a traditional neck lift. The incisions continue behind the ears and end at the bottom of the hairline. Creating the incisions in this way ensures the most discreet scars possible.

Dr. Barrera repositions the fatty deposits beneath the chin and within the upper neck to improve symmetry and smoothness. If necessary, he performs liposuction to eliminate excess fat.

He also tightens underlying neck muscles and moves your neck skin to reduce skin sagging, particularly platysmal bands (vertical neck bands). The result is a smoother, tighter, and younger-looking neck. A traditional neck lift can correct even significant signs of aging in the neck area.

Limited Incision Neck Lift

A limited neck lift involves shorter incisions, which minimizes scarring. This approach corrects the same concerns as a traditional neck lift but less extensively. This approach could be right for you if you have only mild or moderate signs of neck aging.

Neck Lift Surgery Details

Dr. Barrera performs neck lifts in our state-of-the-art Houston surgery facility, which is accredited by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF). Surgery generally takes two to four hours, based on which approach he uses and whether you also opt for other procedures. Many of our patients combine facelifts and neck lifts for comprehensive results.

Because we’re an ambulatory surgery facility, you can return home to recover. Dr. Barrera puts patient safety first. He uses IV sedation with local anesthesia or total IV anesthesia (TIVA), which greatly reduces risk by avoiding general anesthesia.
