Our eyes are the first thing people see when they meet us for the first time. It’s too bad what they’re telling that new acquaintance is that we’re maybe older than our actual years.
Our eyes feature some of the thinnest skin on the entire human body, and they are exposed all the time to the sun, wind, and effects of the environment. So our eyelids sag, droop, look tired, and may even begin to impact our vision.
Blepharoplasty with Dr. Barrera can put an end to that eyelid aging. Eyelid surgery allows Dr. Barrera to address those drooping, aging eyelids. Through the removal of excess skin and retightening support muscles, Dr. Barrera can take 10 years off a patient’s age with this facial procedure.
Would eyelid surgery be good for me?
Pretty much anyone over the age of 40 could probably benefit to some degree from eyelid surgery. But here are some specifics to look for:
You have…
- Excess skin obscuring the natural fold of your upper eyelids
- Loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids
- A puffy appearance in your upper eyelids
- Excess skin and fine “crepe paper” wrinkles on the lower eyelids
- Bags or dark circles under your eyes
- Droopy lower eyelids
Upper eyelid procedure
Dr. Barrera’s patients usually opt to have both eyelids addressed, but they can also be done individually. In the upper eyelid, he places the incision in the natural fold of the upper eyelid, extending it slightly beyond the outside corner into the laugh lines. He then removes excess skin and fatty tissue.
Lower eyelid procedure
With most patients, Dr. Barrera will make the lower eyelid incision just below the lower eyelash. Through this incision he is able to remove excess skin and muscle. Fat is often repositioned rather than removed. Some patients will need their muscles tightened.
This is a satisfying cosmetic procedure that doesn’t involve a difficult recovery. Plus, the procedure is subtle. Friends and co-workers who don’t know you’ve had the surgery will simply notice that you look somehow more alert and refreshed, but won’t have any idea as to why.
